Job summary

City of Springfield seeks an experienced administrator to lead environmental health protection activities within the municipal health department. You will plan, implement, supervise, coordinate, and continually evaluate a comprehensive program with substantial technical independence and regular reporting.

The role supervises sanitarian staff, reviews inspections and laboratory work, and coordinates with public health partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or public health required.
• Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience as a municipal sanitarian, including supervisory experience.
• Registration as a sanitarian under the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Sanitarians is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, supervise, coordinate and continually evaluate the environmental health program.
• Supervise sanitarian staff and inspectors; review inspections and laboratory findings.
• Coordinate with health, social and related agencies and promote community cooperation in environmental sanitation.
• Examine plans and water/ waste systems to approve or reject projects; prepare reports and budgets.
• Conduct staff meetings and conferences to interpret policy and coordinate services.
