This leadership role is responsible for managing preventative maintenance programs, overseeing building systems, controlling departmental expenses, and protecting the overall hotel assets.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem‑solver who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership skills and takes pride in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for guests and associates.

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Chief Engineer, you will oversee all aspects of hotel engineering operations while leading a team dedicated to maintaining the property to the highest standards.

Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the daily operations of the Engineering department, including work assignments, preventative maintenance schedules, and departmental priorities.
  • Develop and execute short‑term and long‑term maintenance plans to protect the hotel assets.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs for guest rooms, public spaces, mechanical equipment, and hotel infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, and life safety systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hotel equipment, systems, and facilities while ensuring compliance with brand and company standards.
  • Ensure timely response to guest, associate, and management maintenance requests to maximize guest satisfaction and room availability. The original standard includes responding within 15 minutes whenever possible.
  • Monitor and maintain life safety systems, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, alarms, and other required safety equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local building codes, hotel brand requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Manage pool maintenance and chemical testing in accordance with company, brand, and applicable jurisdictional standards when applicable.
  • Maintain clean, organized engineering shops, storage areas, and hotel grounds.
  • Develop department budgets, recommend capital expenditure projects, and manage expenses within approved budget guidelines.
  • Manage vendor relationships, coordinate outside contractors, and oversee specialized repair projects.
  • Respond to emergency situations, investigate alarms, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment documentation, inspections, and preventative maintenance logs.
  • Support additional projects and assist other departments as needed to ensure overall hotel success.
What You Bring:

  • Technical certifications or licenses in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other skilled trades are preferred. The original template also recognizes technical school education and equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
Physical Requirements:

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday. Candidates should be able to lift and move at least 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed throughout the hotel property and may involve exposure to mechanical equipment, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid environments, chemicals, electrical systems, and moderate to loud noise levels.
