You will work as part of an engineering & facilities team at a multi-million sq ft client portfolio managed by JLL. This is a client-facing role that requires a well-rounded engineering leader in a 24/7 critical operations environment.

Schedule: onsite, Mon-Fri 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM with an on-call rotating schedule

Job Summary:

The Chief Engineer, Facilities Critical Environments is responsible for supporting the Engineering Manager and Regional Operations Manager in the safe, efficient operation of critical systems, including UPS, electrical systems, generators, HVAC, and mechanical infrastructure outside of data centers. This role requires an experienced chiller plant operator familiar with both chilled-water and air-cooled systems, with a strong focus on performance optimization, efficiency, and lifecycle management. The Chief Engineer will also provide specialized support for data center operations as needed. The position emphasizes system reliability, safety, environmental compliance, and minimizing operational disruptions, aiming to protect the owner's assets and improve system performance in mission-critical environments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Critical Systems Operations & Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of UPS, generators, electrical, HVAC (including chilled-water and air-cooled systems), and fire life support systems to ensure optimal performance. Perform emergency testing and repairs to minimize downtime. Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) for alarms and performance metrics, responding promptly to abnormalities.
  • Lab Support: Maintain environmental controls for lab spaces, collaborating with lab managers to plan maintenance or upgrades with minimal disruption. Ensure systems meet safety and regulatory standards, emphasizing redundancy and reliability.
  • Energy Management & Optimization: Implement energy-saving measures, conduct energy audits, and support integration of conservation measures into critical systems.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response: Prepare systems for emergencies, respond to incidents, and support fire drills and contingency planning.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure safety and environmental compliance, document maintenance and performance metrics, and support audits.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and contractors, oversee work quality, and evaluate performance.
  • Asset Management: Maintain inventory, track lifecycle, and support asset upgrades and replacements.
  • Project Support: Provide technical input for projects, review drawings, and coordinate system downtime.
  • Communication & Reporting: Report on system performance, incidents, and maintenance; communicate with stakeholders.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing: Stay updated on technology, share best practices, and support training.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Identify risks, ensure safety compliance, and contribute to safety plans.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, climb, kneel, lift, and work overhead regularly.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 feet.
  • Availability to work holidays and respond to emergencies.
Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED, 7-10 years in critical systems engineering, experience as a chiller plant operator (both chilled-water and air-cooled), military experience is a plus, strong knowledge of UPS, generators, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and lab systems, familiarity with relevant codes.

Skills & Abilities: Ability to interpret technical documents, write reports, proficient in MS Office, strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with Corrigo and ServiceNow platforms.
