Transform at JLL with your leadership experience as a Chief Engineer on a technology client account! You will work as part of an engineering & facilities team at a multi-million sq ft client portfolio managed by JLL. This is a client-facing role that requires a well-rounded engineering leader in a 24/7 critical operations environment.

Schedule: Onsite, Mon-Fri 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with an on-call rotating schedule

Location: North Austin / Round Rock, TX

Job Summary:

The Chief Engineer, Facilities Critical Environments is responsible for supporting the Engineering Manager and Regional Operations Manager in the safe, efficient operation of critical systems, including UPS, electrical, generators, HVAC, and mechanical systems outside of data centers. This role requires an experienced chiller plant operator familiar with both chilled-water and air-cooled systems, emphasizing performance optimization, efficiency, and lifecycle management. The Chief Engineer will also provide specialized support for data center operations as needed, focusing on system reliability, safety, environmental standards, and minimizing disruptions. The role aims to protect asset value and enhance system performance in mission-critical environments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Critical Systems Operations & Maintenance
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of critical systems, ensuring optimal functionality
  • Perform emergency testing and repairs to minimize downtime
  • Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) for alarms and performance metrics
Lab Support
  • Maintain environmental controls for lab spaces, ensuring compliance and reliability
  • Collaborate with lab managers for maintenance and upgrades
Energy Management & Optimization
  • Implement energy-saving measures and conduct audits
Emergency Preparedness & Response
  • Prepare systems for emergencies and respond to incidents promptly
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain compliance with safety and operational standards
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
  • Collaborate with vendors, oversee work quality, and evaluate performance
Asset Management
  • Maintain inventory, track lifecycle, and support asset upgrades
Project Support
  • Provide technical input for projects, review drawings, and coordinate downtime
Communication & Reporting
  • Report system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities
Training & Knowledge Sharing
  • Stay updated on technology, share knowledge, and support training
Safety & Risk Management
  • Mitigate risks, ensure safety compliance, and develop safety plans
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, climb, lift, work overhead, and enter confined spaces
  • Lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 feet, respond to emergencies
Minimum Requirements:
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 7–10 years in critical systems engineering, labs, or data centers
  • Experience as a chiller plant operator, familiar with chilled-water and air-cooled systems
  • Military experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of UPS, generators, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, lab systems
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read technical documents and codes
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with Corrigo and ServiceNow platforms
