Job summary

Empire State Realty Trust, Inc. is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead building operations for flagship NYC assets, coordinating maintenance, safety, and tenant services.

You will supervise engineers, manage preventive maintenance, oversee contractor work, and ensure regulatory compliance across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems. Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in operating engineering, electrical power, and HVAC systems, with 2+ years in personnel management.
• Current engineer's license (or recognized equivalent) in the applicable jurisdiction.
• EPA CFC Certification for HVAC systems.
• Fire Life Safety Director (F-89) certification and Emergency Action Plan familiarity.
• Category 7G Certified Applicator License or equivalent expected/required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise engineering staff and building operations to meet lease obligations and ESRT standards.
• Maintain and inspect HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety systems; manage preventive maintenance programs.
• Review tenant construction, renovations, and control projects for compliance with plans and standards.
• Manage contractors and vendors, including bid reviews and performance oversight.
• Monitor energy usage and lead sustainability initiatives to reduce costs and emissions.
• Prepare budgets, reports, and documentation; ensure timely communication with tenants.
