Job summary

GDIT in Washington, DC seeks a Chief Engineer to serve as the senior technical leader and trusted advisor to customer leadership. You will guide the technical strategy while ensuring successful execution of modernization initiatives and hands-on engineering validation across enterprise operations.

You will mentor staff, lead architectural reviews, assess risks, and drive initiatives to improve security, reliability, and efficiency in complex IT environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of enterprise IT engineering and architecture experience.
• Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, systems integration, security and compliance, and cloud/hybrid architecture.
• Experience evaluating technical risks and developing strategic solutions.
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills.

This role requires the ability to operate at both the strategic and technical levels, including hands-on engineering engagement to validate approaches, reduce risk, accelerate decision‑making, and demonstrate technical solutions. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across enterprise operations, modernization efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Experience may be substituted for education.

• Minimum 10 years of enterprise IT engineering and architecture experience.

• Strong understanding of:

The likely salary range for this position is $165,750 - $224,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
