Job summary

JLL seeks a Chief Engineer in Miami to lead the seamless operation of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and HVAC. Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years facility-related work experience with building systems knowledge.
  • At least 5+ years in supervising engineers or technicians.
  • Hands-on experience with critical infrastructure including UPS, ATS, STS, and PDUs.
  • Proficiency in CMMS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration.

What this job involves:

As Chief Engineer at JLL, you'll serve as the technical leader responsible for the seamless operation of complex building systems and critical infrastructure. This role puts you at the helm of all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC operations, where you'll monitor and maintain everything from refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to boilers, pumps, valves, and specialized critical systems including UPS modules, generators, PDUs, and automatic transfer switches. You'll oversee both the day-to-day performance and long-term reliability of building infrastructure while managing a team of engineers and maintenance staff.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Monitor and maintain all building mechanical and electrical systems including HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, pumps, valves, piping, and critical infrastructure equipment, reviewing logs to ensure proper operation and reporting malfunctions immediately
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs and repair schedules for all HVAC and critical systems using platforms like Maintenance Connect or similar CMMS software
  • Supervise and manage a team of engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, personal development, and fostering a collaborative work environment where everyone is empowered to thrive
  • Manage contractor activities throughout the building, ensuring adherence to the Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) process for all work performed on critical infrastructure
  • Maintain adequate inventory of tools, supplies, and stock materials by preparing purchase order requests, developing supplier relationships, and conducting periodic equipment and inventory checks
  • Identify safety hazards and implement remediation strategies while administering comprehensive safety training programs to ensure staff and occupants work in a safe environment
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws, maintaining up-to-date building drawings, single-line diagrams, and required documentation while alerting management to any discrepancies
  • Provide ongoing training and technical support to expand the capabilities and knowledge base of the operations team
Required qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of facility-related work experience with comprehensive knowledge of building systems and maintenance processes
  • 5+ years of experience directly managing and developing a staff of technicians or engineers
  • Working knowledge of critical system equipment operations including UPS modules, ATS, STS, generators, and PDUs
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS platforms such as Maintenance Connect
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with staff, contractors, tenants, and management
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and lying down for extended periods to access equipment
Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience
  • Experience with Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) processes in mission-critical or data center environments
  • Background in regulatory compliance documentation and audit preparation
  • Professional certifications related to HVAC, electrical systems, or facilities management
  • Experience developing and implementing preventive maintenance strategies that optimize system performance and extend equipment lifecycles
