Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead maintenance and engineering across client facilities. This role involves directing maintenance programs, overseeing safety and regulatory compliance, and mentoring engineering staff on site.

The Chief Engineer will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, review service bulletins, and drive project implementations with a focus on reliability and efficiency across varied equipment and systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field, with 7+ years of progressively responsible engineering, facilities, or building operations experience; or 10+ years without a bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Must possess a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
  • Must possess any license or certification legally required to perform the assigned work within the applicable state, county, or city jurisdiction.

  • Operate and maintain HVAC, engines, turbines, motors, pumps, compressors, and related equipment at client sites.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers on technical issues, work scope, and failure investigations.
  • Provide engineering support for systems, maintenance programs, engines, and operational engineering functions.
  • Review service bulletins and develop plans with cost/benefit analysis for project implementation and warranty recovery.
  • Coordinate with other groups to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability and efficiency.

Overview

The Chief Engineer performs scheduled maintenance, safety inspections and repairs to varying types of equipment and coaches other engineers as indirect reports.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees building operations and prepares work progress reports and metrics for manager review
  • Follow safe practices and complies with company and regulatory standards
  • Operate heating and ventilating equipment, engines, turbines, motors, combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, ice and refrigerating machines, air conditioning units, fans and siphons in assigned client site
  • Collaborate with both internal and external customers on technical issues, work scope recommendations and failure investigations
  • Provide engineering support for a wide range of systems, maintenance programs, engines as well as operational engineering functions
  • Analyze and seek solutions to the design, operation, maintenance, performance or repair of vehicles/equipment and their components
  • Define a maintenance program or configuration to troubleshoot issues and ensure a safe and legal operation
  • Review Service Bulletins (SBs) from manufacturers or component manufacturers
  • Develop solutions and implementation plans, project justification, cost/benefit analysis, and overall management of project implementation and coordinate warranty recovery on SBs that are applicable
  • Organize and manage priorities for assigned responsibilities and accomplish the work process to meet all deliverable for projects as well as maintenance program changes and technical specification revisions
  • Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability and operational efficiency
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field and at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible engineering, facilities, or building operations experience; or at least ten (10) years of equivalent experience without a bachelor’s degree.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Must possess a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
  • Must possess any license or certification legally required to perform the assigned work within the applicable state, county, or city jurisdiction.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Relevant Professional Engineer, stationary engineer, HVAC, electrical, boiler, or other applicable technical license or certification.
  • Without a relevant technical license or certification, at least two (2) additional years of directly related experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing complex HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS, life-safety, and preventive maintenance programs.
