Job description

Girls Inc. of New York City (GINYC)delivers life-changing programs that inspire youth to be strong, smart, and bold. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained professionals, equips youth to achieve academically; lead emotionally and physically healthy lives; manage money; navigate media messages; and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. GINYC is an independent affiliate of the national Girls Inc. network, the nation’s leading expert on issues affecting girls and young women.

GINYC is seeking an innovative, energetic, and thoughtful CDO. This individual works closely with the CEO, governing board and senior management to provide leadership and oversight of all resource development strategies and activities, including creating, planning and managing successful initiatives in the areas of major gifts, grants, special events, annual giving, planned giving, growth campaigns, communications and stewardship, and will ensure the alignment of development activities with the mission, policies, values and goals of GINYC.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as persuasive power and persistence. They will be skilled in motivating and leading teams, and maintaining excellent relationships with various donors, partners and other stakeholders. The position reports directly to the CEO and works in close partnership with the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with CEO and key stakeholders in the development and management of corporate, foundation and government grants, major gifts and fundraising campaigns - Create annual philanthropy plans to meet financial goals, analyze results, and pivot as needed
  • Develop growth campaign strategy in concert with the CEO and the Board, as well as managing the process.
  • Cultivate a robust portfolio of major gifts, as well as new corporate and foundation prospects that require a systematic approach of personal visits and outreach
  • Develop new donor sources and fundraising programs as well as retaining, engaging existing donors
  • Maximize fundraising potential from existing donors through communication strategies that include social media fundraising and direct mailing appeals as well as in person meetings.
  • Collaborative management of annual gala and smaller-scale events (in person and virtual)
  • Track and report on the fulfillment of grants in coordination with program and financial teams and serve as an ongoing liaison to donors
  • Manage the development operations team and function efficiently, and oversee activities in coordination with the development team to build skills, knowledge, and abilities of team in all aspects of resource development
  • Develop, edit and/or review written proposals, letters and other communications for individuals, corporations, foundations and grantors
  • Keep abreast of developments in philanthropy and fund development
  • Oversee and improve existing development department infrastructure: donor tracking database, donor communications, and evaluation and reporting systems
  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the code of ethics for fundraising professionals. Maintain donor and financial records in accordance with general accounting and fundraising standards.

  • Several years of fundraising experience, with demonstrated ability to raise six and seven figure donations and sponsorships
  • Proven track record with major donors; ability to work effectively with high net worth donors and engage key stakeholders
  • Proven track record with institutional partners and sponsors and the ability to develop long-term partnership relationships
  • Experience coordinating in-person and virtual fundraising events
  • High-level understanding and knowledge of a youth focused, multi-cultural perspective and New York City-based, youth development programming
  • Highly motivated, with engaging personality, ready to conduct donor visits and fundraising calls
  • History of building effective, collaborative working relationships dependent upon mutual trust, integrity, discretion and good judgment
  • Ability to develop strategic communications content
  • Strong relationship management, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills required to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner
  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred
