A leading company is seeking a Chief Custodian to oversee custodial maintenance at the Savannah River Research Campus. The role involves supervising staff, maintaining cleanliness standards, and ensuring a safe environment. Ideal candidates will have experience in facilities maintenance and possess strong leadership skills.
Under general supervision, provides crew leadership and participates in the custodial maintenance of Savannah River Research Campus buildings to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Savannah River Research Campus Manager.
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience in facilities maintenance and/or custodial operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Knowledge of Job: Has knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the County and division as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Chief Custodian. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment associated with custodial maintenance work. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry. Is able to ensure safe and effective use of equipment and tools by subordinates. Is able to conduct thorough inspections of work in progress to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures and standards of cleanliness and safety. Is able to provide effective crew leadership. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations. Is able to perform employee evaluations and to make recommendations based on results. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to subordinates as required. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Is able to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to prepare simple records with accuracy and in a timely manner. Has knowledge of the terminology used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Is able to perform work effectively despite occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, wetness/humidity, machinery hazards, skin irritants, toxic agents, disease, dirt, dust, odors, electrical currents, etc.
