Job summary

AEP Service Corporation's Transmission division in New Albany, OH seeks a Vice President Legal, Transmission to serve as the principal legal advisor to the President of Transmission and leadership team. You will provide strategic, business-focused counsel on investments, risk, and organizational matters across complex transactions and real estate matters.

Lead a small legal team, manage outside counsel, and partner with enterprise legal to align standards.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor or equivalent from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 14+ years of legal experience in private practice, corporate, government, or regulatory environments.
• Experience advising senior leaders on complex commercial, transactional, and business matters.
• Experience supporting procurement, construction, infrastructure, real estate, energy, or other capital-intensive operations.
• Proven leadership experience managing legal professionals and outside counsel.
• Ability to assess and communicate legal risk to support sound business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Executive and Strategic Legal Counsel: Serve as principal legal advisor to the President of Transmission and leadership team.
• Commercial and Transactional Matters: Lead legal support for complex transactions, partnerships, investments, and commercial initiatives.
• Procurement and Contracting: Advise on procurement strategies, drafting and negotiating vendor, construction, supply, technology, and service agreements.
• Real Estate and Property Matters: Oversee acquisitions, easements, rights-of-way, title, and land use.
• Legal Risk, Governance, and Compliance: Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation; advise on regulatory and policy matters.
• Disputes and Outside Counsel Management: Manage disputes, budgets, and outside counsel strategies.
• Leadership and Team Management: Lead a small legal team; develop staff and resources.
