Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen Inc. seeks a Chief Construction Inspector to lead our CEI team in Shelton, CT. You will oversee transportation infrastructure projects and ensure compliance with contract documents while coordinating staff and serving as the primary field representative to clients and stakeholders.

The role requires extensive inspection experience, PE/NICET/CCM credentials, and strong leadership and communication skills to drive project success on municipal and state projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of construction inspection experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Credentials required: PE or NICET IV or CCM.
  • Experience with Connecticut DOT, municipal, or public agency projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead construction inspection activities on roadway, bridge, and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Manage and supervise inspection staff, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as primary liaison between GPI, contractors, and Connecticut DOT representatives.
  • Ensure work complies with plans, specs, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Review daily inspection reports, material certifications, and project docs.
  • Monitor schedules, quantities, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Coordinate field testing and QA activities.
  • Conduct project meetings and report status to clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior inspectors and support staff development.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead construction inspection activities on roadway, bridge, and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Manage and supervise inspection staff, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between GPI, contractors, and Connecticut DOT representatives.
  • Ensure construction work complies with plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Review and approve daily inspection reports, material certifications, and project documentation.
  • Monitor project schedules, quantities, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Coordinate field testing and quality assurance activities.
  • Conduct project meetings and communicate project status to clients and stakeholders.
  • Identify and resolve construction issues while maintaining project progress and quality.
  • Mentor junior inspectors and support staff development.
What You'll Bring:
  • Minimum 8 years of construction inspection experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • One of the following credentials is required: Professional Engineer (PE)NICET Level IV CertificationCertified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • Experience working on Connecticut DOT, municipal, or other public agency projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, specifications, and contract administration.
  • Experience reviewing contractor schedules, pay estimates, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site.
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members.
  • Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours.
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19\" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.).
  • Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height of 6' or higher.
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working.
  • Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds.
