Job summary

Stanford University Libraries in Redwood City is seeking a Head of Conservation Services to lead a team of conservators and technicians responsible for conservation treatment, housing, and exhibition loans of special collections.

This senior role reports to the Associate Director for Preservation, drives workflows aligned with strategic priorities, and collaborates with 80+ curators, librarians and experts in a complex academic environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or advanced certificate in conservation with experience in an academic library or related cultural heritage setting.
• Five or more years of experience in an established conservation lab with high responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of Conservation Services; supervise staff and coordinate workflows.
• Lead staff including hiring, training and fostering an inclusive work environment.
• Oversee conservation treatment projects and coordinate with external vendors.
• Oversee support for exhibition loans to local, national, and international venues.
• Administer treatment reports and develop new workflows and procedures.
• Participate in department planning within Preservation.
