Job summary

River is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer to design and own a comprehensive compliance program for a rapidly growing bitcoin-focused financial platform. You will lead a team of analysts, own BSA/AML and sanctions programs, and drive policy development, training, and risk assessment across the business.

You will manage exams, maintain licenses, and partner with regulators and bank partners. You will work closely with operations, product, and engineering to embed compliance into product

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and running compliance programs at a regulated financial institution, ideally with BSA Officer experience.
• A track record of managing regulatory exams and audits, and building genuine, durable relationships with regulators and bank partners.
• Direct experience with OCC processes; charter application experience is a strong plus.
• A systems thinker, solving root problems and building durable processes.
• Strong people leadership with experience building and developing a team.
• Excellent communicator capable with regulators, Board, or engineers.
• Strategic and proactive approach to regulatory risk.
• Client-first mindset: protect and serve clients while maintaining program integrity.
• Culture carrier, raising the bar for colleagues' thinking and work.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid growth in a regulated fintech environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow River's team of compliance analysts, setting the bar for operations, hiring, and development.
• Serve as River's BSA Officer, owning the BSA/AML and sanctions programs end-to-end.
• Build and maintain River's compliance policies and procedures and run company-wide training.
• Own River's compliance risk assessment and drive cross-functional prioritization.
• Develop and run an independent compliance testing and monitoring function.
• Maintain River's state money transmitter licenses and support OCC charter efforts.
• Own relationships with regulators and bank partners; manage regulatory exams and audits.
• Sign off on new products/features to ensure built-in compliance.
• Build scalable compliance systems and processes for growth.
• Advise the executive team and Board on regulatory strategy and emerging risk.
