Job summary

Berkeley Lab invites visionary communications leaders to apply for the role of Chief Communications Officer (CCO). The CCO will lead Berkeley Lab’s strategic communications function and advance the Laboratory’s mission by delivering science solutions to the world’s grand challenges.

Reporting to the Laboratory Director and serving on the executive team, the CCO advises on reputation, engagement, and institutional positioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a communications-related field.
• 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategic communications or public affairs.
• Experience within a science-driven, research, or academic environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute an enterprise-wide communications strategy aligned with the Laboratory’s mission and priorities.
• Advise the Laboratory Director and executive leadership on reputation, issues management, and stakeholder engagement.
• Translate long-term vision into actionable communication strategies across internal and external audiences.
• Lead integrated storytelling to reinforce a unified Laboratory identity.
