Job summary

The School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University seeks an experienced Chief Communications Officer to lead a nimble communications team and oversee all communications strategies and activities across executive and internal communications, media relations, digital strategy, and brand management.

The role reports to the Associate Dean for External Relations and collaborates with senior leaders, chairs, and campus partners to maximize impact and consistency across 24 departments and 25

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Zoom.
  • Experience managing events from planning to execution.
  • Experience maintaining websites, creating newsletters and flyers.
  • Experience with customer service.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and managing changing priorities.
  • Proactive mindset and strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan addressing all stakeholders and enhancing global reputation.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to school leadership and staff, including executive communications.
  • Serve as primary spokesperson and direct crisis communications for the school.
  • Communicate breadth and depth of faculty research, student opportunities, and alumni impact.
  • Oversee school messages for multiple audiences, channels, and constituencies.
  • Manage the H&S brand and ensure alignment with university guidelines.
  • Direct management of public-facing communications programs, platforms, and channels.
  • Collaborate with University Communications to define a proactive media relations strategy.
  • Hire, mentor, and retain staff; manage outside contractors; oversee budget.
