Job description

SAIC is seeking a Chief Cloud Computing Engineer to support the Navy’s mission-critical initiative to achieve seamless, distributed maritime operations. This role focuses on designing, deploying, and optimizing secure, scalable cloud infrastructure that enables data-driven decision-making and continuous delivery of mission-critical capabilities across domains. You will work closely with Navy stakeholders, software teams, and cybersecurity personnel to integrate modern cloud-native technologies that support resilient operations across land, sea, air, space, and cyber environments. This is a remote role that will require travel between California and Hawaii.

JOB DUTIES:
  1. Design and deploy secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architecture (primarily AWS and Azure) to support Department of Defense (DoD) mission systems.
  2. Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  3. Configure and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment processes.
  4. Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability tools to ensure system reliability and performance.
  5. Enforce cloud security best practices, including role-based access control, encryption, and compliance with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  6. Support containerized application deployment using Kubernetes, Docker, and orchestration platforms (e.g., OpenShift, EKS, AKS).
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure and support mission-driven development environments.
  8. Write and maintain documentation including architecture diagrams, user guides, and system configurations.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelors Degree with 18+ years or Masters with 16+ years of experience.
  2. 8+ years of hands-on experience engineering solutions in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  3. 5+ years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, including secure configuration, patch management, PKI, system hardening, and cloud integration.
  4. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  5. Active Secret Clearance required to start; ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  6. Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and IAM.
  7. Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  8. Experience with GitOps and DevSecOps tools (e.g., Argo CD, Flux, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
  9. Experience with cloud-native services like ELBs, ALBs, Route 53, EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, VPC, Azure Functions, Secrets Manager.
  10. Familiarity with container orchestration platforms and security best practices.
  11. Ability to work in Agile teams.
DESIRED SKILLS:
  1. Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) preferred.
  2. Additional certifications (Security+, Network+, SATCOM) a plus.
  3. Experience with DoD or federal cloud migrations/deployments.
  4. Knowledge of DoD compliance frameworks (IL5/6, RMF, FedRAMP).
  5. Experience with OpenShift or hybrid cloud environments.
  6. Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Red Hat OpenShift Administrator, Azure Administrator, CKA.
  7. Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Zabbix, Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor.
