The Chief Clinical Director sets clinical policy and standards at the organizational level and works in direct partnership with each site's Clinical Supervisor, who manages day-to-day clinical operations at their respective location. This is a senior leadership role requiring both strategic oversight and hands‑on involvement in audits, hiring, admissions, and documentation review.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Readiness
  • Ensure all clinical practices at every site meet applicable state regulations for mental health (MH) and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.
  • Prepare and maintain all sites in a constant state of audit readiness for state licensing bodies, JCAHO (or CARF, as applicable), and insurance/payer audits.
  • Lead or directly support all clinical audits, ensuring corrective action plans are developed and implemented when needed.
  • Stay current on changes in state and federal regulations and proactively update policies and practices accordingly.
  • Ensure full compliance with HIPAA across all sites, including proper handling, storage, and transmission of protected health information (PHI).
  • Develop, enforce, and regularly train staff on HIPAA policies and procedures, including breach prevention and reporting protocols.
  • Oversee client confidentiality practices during admissions, charting, group sessions, and coordination with outside providers/payers.
Clinical Programming & Curriculum
  • Ensure group and individual programming at all sites is scheduled appropriately to meet client needs and regulatory/insurance requirements.
  • Keep clinical curriculum current, evidence-based, and aligned with best practices.
  • Research and integrate the latest clinical modalities, interventions, and industry standards into programming across all sites.
Staffing & Hiring Structure
  • Establish and maintain a clinical staffing structure appropriate to census and program needs at each site.
  • Define clear criteria and triggers for when additional clinical hires are needed (caseload ratios, program growth, etc.).
  • Be directly involved in the hiring process for clinical staff, including final review/approval of candidates.
  • Set hiring standards, credentialing requirements, and onboarding expectations for all clinical roles.
Admissions Oversight
  • Establish clinical guidelines and criteria for the Business Development/Admissions team to use when screening prospective clients.
  • Review and make final approval/denial decisions on admissions based on clinical appropriateness and level-of-care criteria.
  • Serve as the clinical point of escalation for complex or borderline admissions decisions.
Documentation & Quality Review
  • Conduct regular chart/documentation audits across all sites to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and payer standards.
  • Identify documentation trends or deficiencies and implement corrective training as needed.
  • Support utilization review and ensure documentation supports medical necessity for continued care.
Clinical Leadership & Site Oversight
  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and support to each site's Clinical Supervisor.
  • Standardize clinical policies and procedures across all sites while allowing for site‑specific needs.
  • Travel between sites as needed to conduct audits, trainings, site visits, and in‑person support.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and quality metrics across the organization and report to executive leadership.
  • Lead or support incident review, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a clinical resource and escalation point for complex clinical, ethical, or crisis situations across sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active, unrestricted clinical license required (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LPCC, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent) in the state(s) of operation.
  • Significant clinical experience in mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment settings.
