LOCATION OF POSITION: MDH, PHPA, Center for Immunization, Baltimore, MD
Main Purpose of Job: This position serves as the Medical Director and Chief of the Center for Immunization. This Center is complex with responsibility for management and oversight of multiple CDC Cooperative Agreements with a total budget of over $100,000,000, as well as for multiple large and small procurements, and funding allocations to all 24 local health departments to support a broad spectrum of vaccination activities. The program is also responsible for maintaining and operating ImmuNet, Maryland’s Immunization Information System, MY IR, a consumer portal for immunization records, running the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program with over 700 participating medical providers, and for providing direction and oversight to local health departments investigating and controlling vaccine-preventable diseases. This position provides experienced clinical and public health leadership in directing, coordinating, and promoting the work of the Center to local health departments, medical providers, and professional associations, performing highly responsible programmatic and administrative work at the level of a program administrator who has extensive training, expertise, and experience in clinical services related to the prevention and medical management of vaccine-preventable diseases, current public health practices related to vaccinations, project management, communications, and community capacity-building. This position uses experience and knowledge in the area of vaccine-preventable diseases, childhood and adult immunizations, immunization information systems, and program management to provide statewide leadership and to serve as the MDH’s liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention related to immunizations.
Qualified applicants must possess a doctorate degree in medicine (MD) from an accredited college or university, a valid Maryland license to practice medicine, Board Certification, and at least two years of medical practice.
