Job summary

University of Colorado Anschutz Cancer Center seeks a Director to provide strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for Colorado's premier cancer center. Qualifications

• MD/DO/PhD (or equivalent) in a cancer-related field.
• National reputation for excellence in cancer research as a physician-scientist and/or cancer researcher.
• Proven record of securing extramural funding and managing complex, multidisciplinary programs.
• Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor (tenure-eligible) in the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for CU Cancer Center to reduce cancer burden.
• Promote interdisciplinary research spanning discovery, translation and population research.
• Lead collaborations with major organizations (NCCN, AACI, NCCN, ASCO, AACR).
• Provide strategic oversight for Cancer Center research programs and cores.
• Foster cross-disciplinary, team-based science bridging lab, clinical and population research.
• Mentor leaders and faculty to sustain extramural funding portfolios.
• Lead preparation for CCSG renewal and external reviews.
• Foster partnerships with UCHealth, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Denver Health, and VA Medical Center.
• Ensure integration of research into patient care and expand equitable access to prevention and treatment across Colorado.
• Oversee administrative, financial, and operations components of the Cancer Center.
• Manage senior leadership and governance structures and ensure compliance with policies.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain cancer researchers, clinicians, educators, and staff.
• Lead community engagement to reduce cancer burden and address disparities.
• Advance cancer education and mentorship for trainees and researchers.
• Collaborate with Advancement to expand philanthropic investment in programs.
