Job summary

The City of Johns Creek is seeking a Chief Building Official to lead the Building Division and oversee plan review, permitting, and inspections. You will balance regulatory compliance with customer-focused service while serving as the primary plan reviewer and technical adviser to city leadership, builders, and residents.

Responsibilities include division leadership, code enforcement, budget management, staff development, and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field.
• Experience: Six (6) years in construction building inspection, building design, plan review, structural engineering, or related field, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

• Division Leadership: Plan, organize, supervise Building Division and coordinate plan review, permit issuance, and inspections.
• Code Compliance: Enforce state and city building regulations and review third-party inspection reports.
• Communication: Demonstrate effective written and oral communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Fiscal Oversight: Develop Building Division budget and adjust fee schedules based on activity and costs.
• Team Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and provide ongoing training.
• Case Management: Manage Stop Work Orders, Notices of Violation, Citations, and code cases; testify as needed.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as technical resource to Construction Appeals Board and City Council; liaise with builders and residents.
• Emergency Response: Respond to dangerous buildings and other emergencies, including outside business hours.
