Job description

The Chief Broadcast Engineer’s responsibilities include managing technological assets and station administrative tasks. Working closely with the local GMs and the Director of Engineering, the role involves guiding departments to meet Lotus standards, maintaining good engineering practices in new installations, and developing preventive maintenance procedures with documentation. The position oversees daily activities across stations in Fresno and Bakersfield to ensure efficiency and minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and operations of video, audio, and RF systems, including satellite and microwave equipment.
2. Possess working knowledge of broadcast and production systems.
3. Extensive knowledge of computer networking, broadcast automation, and transmitter support; capable of resolving complex issues independently under pressure.
4. Work independently to meet departmental and station goals within deadlines.
5. Interpret schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
6. Support, maintain, and install broadcast, RF, and production systems based on SDI and IP architectures.
7. Configure and optimize software, hardware, servers, automation, and workflows to enhance productivity.
8. Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
9. Collaborate with programming to develop content workflows and support systems.
10. Contribute to budget planning and operational improvements.
11. Maintain knowledge of FCC rules and regulations, including record-keeping and reporting.
12. Implement proactive monitoring systems to anticipate and address technical issues.
13. Update technical documentation post-installation and record equipment repairs and costs.
14. Operate studio, news, and control room equipment.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
