Job summary

DRMP is seeking a Chief Bridge/Structures Engineer to lead complex DOT bridge and infrastructure projects in Florida. You will serve as Project Manager, Engineer of Record, or Design Lead, directing design and calculations for large multi‑discipline transportation structures.

Ideal candidates have 20+ years in bridge design with a PE/SE license, extensive experience with FDOT standards, and a track record mentoring engineers. Sign-on bonus offered and opportunity to shape a growing practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Civil/Structural Eng from ABET-accredited school.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer (PE/SE).
  • 15+ years post‑registration structural experience.
  • 20+ years in bridge design/plan production including multiple bridge types.
  • Proficient with bridge design software such as FB Multi-Pier, Leap Bridge, SmartBridge, LARSA, etc.
  • Proficient with Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenBridge Modeler, AutoCAD/CADD.
  • 3D modeling in OpenBridge Modeler a plus.
  • Familiar with AASHTO LRFD and FDOT standards.
  • Able to mentor junior engineers and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good QA/QC and technical review skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead as Structures Project Manager, EOR, or Design Lead on multi‑discipline projects.
  • Act as Technical Structures Design Lead for bridge design and plans.
  • Direct data collection, calculations, and evaluation of design options.
  • Plan, design, and produce structural calculations, reports, drawings, and specs.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of calculations, drawings, and specs.
  • Lead marketing for bridge pursuits (FDOT letters, presentations, interviews).
  • Support construction phase: RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, problem solving.
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide project teams.

Job description

DRMP is a fast-growing transportation engineering firm in the Southeast, seeking a Chief Bridge/Structures Engineer, P.E., to lead complex DOT bridge and infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Structures Project Manager, Engineer of Record, or Design Lead on multi-disciplined transportation projects using both conventional and alternative delivery methods
  • Serve as Technical Structures Design Lead for all aspects of bridge design and plans preparation
  • Direct engineering alternatives investigations through the collection and analysis of data, performing calculations, and evaluation of alternate solutions
  • Direct planning, design and production of structural calculations, written reports, engineering drawings, and specifications for projects related to bridge and transportation structures
  • Perform technical reviews (QA/QC) of structural calculations, written reports, engineering drawings, and specifications ensuring appropriate design criteria, procedures and guidelines are followed
  • Lead marketing efforts for bridge project pursuits including FDOT Letters of Response, Presentations and Technical Interviews
  • Support construction phase of projects, including responding to RFI’s, review of shop drawings, problem solving, etc.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
  • Bachelors of Science from an ABET-accredited university in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer
  • 15+ years post registration structural engineering experience
  • 20+ years of relevant bridge design and plans production experience, which may include reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed/post-tensioned concrete bridges, steel plate and box girder bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, sign/signal structures, sound barrier walls, and other transportation-related structures
  • Experience using a variety of bridge design software that may include FB Multi-Pier, Leap Bridge Concrete, Smartbridge, LARSA, CSI, STAAD, MDX, Shoring Suite, Atlas, and the FDOT suite of FDOT MathCAD analysis worksheets
  • Proficiency in Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenBridge Modeler, AutoCAD and/or CADD platforms to produce transportation structure designs and plans
  • Ability to do 3D modeling in OpenBridge Modeler is a plus
  • Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
  • Ability to guide junior staff as well as participate in the design and detailing of all aspects of small- to large-scale multi-discipline bridge projects of varying technical complexity
  • Construction specialty engineering experience is a plus
  • Experience with post-tensioning applications is a plus
  • Experience with straddle bent design is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Valid driver’s license with approved/acceptable driving history
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters (MSE/MSCE) in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Complex structures design is a plus
  • PE and/or SE certification in Florida or the ability to obtain Florida Registration
  • Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of the FDOT Structures Manual and FDOT Construction Specifications
