Job summary

Boston MedFlight seeks a Chief Aviation Officer to provide strategic leadership of its aviation business unit, including flight operations, maintenance, and safety. The role ensures safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the organization’s mission.

The CAO will supervise aviation department leaders, drive policy, budget, and fleet strategy, and represent the organization with partners and regulators to sustain patient care excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 10+ years aviation leadership experience, preferably in air medical transport.
• 5+ years in senior or executive aviation leadership with direct supervisory experience.
• FAA Airframe & Powerplant or Commercial Pilot Certificate (Rotorcraft/Helicopter – Instrument).
• 3 years’ experience as an A&P or PIC for an HAA organization.
• Ability to develop and improve aviation policies and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills; able to lead cross-functional teams.
• Financial and budget management expertise.
• Willingness to travel; reliable weekday scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety, performance, and compliance under FAA regulations and CAMTS accreditation standards.
• Oversee the Director of Aviation Operations, Director of Aviation Maintenance, and Aviation Safety Manager; ensure coordinated operations.
• Develop aviation policies and Safety Management System (SMS) processes with risk mitigation and regulatory excellence.
• Define and refine operational standards for safety and efficiency while DO/DOM retain authority.
• Support coordination between flight operations and maintenance for readiness.
