Job summary

Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area is seeking its first Chief Advancement Officer to lead fundraising and communications as it executes a bold, five-year growth plan.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the CAO will build a robust advancement program, cultivate major and principal gifts, oversee annual giving and foundations, and expand the donor pipeline across the Bay Area while shaping the organization’s public voice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience.
• Significant senior leadership responsibility with multi-year fundraising strategies.
• Proven success in major and principal gifts, foundations, corporations, events, and government funding.
• Deep knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic landscape and ethical fundraising.
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising and communications strategy.
• Oversee fundraising across major gifts, annual giving, foundations, corporate partnerships, events, and capital campaigns.
• Build and lead a high-performing advancement team and oversee grant writing.
• Cultivate and steward high-capacity donors and expand the donor pipeline.
• Partner with the Executive Director, Board, and staff to increase visibility and revenue.
