Position Overview

We are seeking a Chief Actuary with experience leading actuarial functions within the insurance industry. This pivotal role drives business and pricing strategies, valuation, product development, and risk management. The Chief Actuary will collaborate across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, optimize reinsurance relationships, and oversee underwriting processes, both automated and manual. Additionally, this role involves guiding the design of policy application questionnaires and managing claims.

What You’ll Do
  • Advise and partner with executive leadership on prudent strategies to drive growth and profitability, while appropriately managing risk.
  • Develop and manage pricing models for Term and Group Life products.
  • Oversee valuation processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Lead product development efforts, collaborating with other departments to bring innovative solutions to market.
  • Conduct forecasting and develop financial projections to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Manage the reinsurance program, negotiating contracts and optimizing risk transfer strategies.
  • Oversee manual and automated underwriting operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Design and refine policy application questionnaires to optimize risk assessment and customer experience.
  • Provide actuarial support for claims management, ensuring fair and timely resolution.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of one actuarial professional and two underwriters. Manage relationship and workflow with one external actuarial consultant.
  • Collaborate with executives and cross-functional teams to achieve company objectives.
  • Present complex actuarial findings in a clear, actionable manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead analysis of company performance and recommend strategies for growth and profitability.
What You’ll Bring
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent designation required.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or a related field.
  • Advanced skills in actuarial modeling software (e.g., AXIS), Excel, SQL, and financial reporting tools.
  • In-depth understanding of VM-20, Reg XXX, and other U.S. life insurance regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor small teams, including managing direct reports and external consultants.
  • Demonstrated success in driving growth, pricing strategies, risk management, and reinsurance optimization.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, and executive teams in a dynamic, innovative environment.
  • Analytical and strategic mindset with proven experience in financial analysis and decision-making.
