Job summary

San José State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Chicanx/Latinx Experiences, Law, and Policy beginning August 2027. The department welcomes interdisciplinary approaches across Chicana/o Studies, legal studies, public policy, and social justice, with emphasis on community-engaged research.

The successful candidate will teach and develop courses in law, public policy, and related topics, contribute to undergraduate and graduate curricula, and mentor graduate students

Qualifications

• PhD in related field by time of appointment.
• Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Chicana and Chicano Studies, including law, public policy, social justice.
• Record of scholarly research or active agenda in related fields.
• Demonstrated awareness of diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain an active research and teaching program focused on intersections of Chicanx/Latinx communities, law, and public policy.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and contribute to curriculum development.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and provide service to department, college, and university.
• Participate in department governance and service assignments.
• Use Canvas LMS to organize and deliver courses.
