ChiArts Summer Experience 6-8 Dance Instructor

Program Description:

Students in grades 6-8 will have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a young artist at ChiArts. For five hours a day, students will be immersed in professional training in the conservatory of their choice and perform in the All-Conservatory Musical Theatre performance on Friday, July 25th.

July 7-25, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm

Job Summary

The Dance Instructor will design and deliver a dance curriculum incorporating Horton Technique, Ballet, African, Jazz, and other styles for daily classes to students in grades 6-8. The instructor will choreograph dance numbers and collaborate with the show’s Director and Music Director for a Musical Theatre, All-Conservatory performance on Friday, July 25th. This includes organizing and hosting engaging afternoon activities related to dance and preparing students for the final show. Instructors will also serve as mentors for ChiArts student apprentices interested in gaining teaching experience through the arts. The camp will provide students interested in applying to ChiArts with material for their audition.

Qualifications
  • Must commit to the entire 3-week camp, July 7-25, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm, and attend an info meeting before camp.
  • Experience in middle school curriculum development preferred.
  • Experience teaching various dance styles.
  • Must submit a curriculum map and a list of requested supplies and materials ahead of time.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization, leadership, and dedication to working with children.
  • Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Attendance at an info meeting (date TBD) and a professional development session on working with middle schoolers prior to camp is required.
