Job Description
This position is responsible to act as a professional tutor and provide individualized and small group assistance to students who are experiencing difficulty with basic principles and concepts of Chemistry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : JOB SPECIFIC
- Conduct sessions on general science knowledge that will aid students with courses, preparation for labs, and toward the successful completion of exams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : STANDARD TO THE ROLE
- Emphasize and promote general skills of problem solving and decision-making, and critical thinking.
- Assist students in assessing their progress and determining their goals, strengths, and needs, and accommodate as necessary.
- Advise students on effective study skills and habits.
- Assist participants with development of a positive self-concept and orientation toward learning – providing encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Accurately maintain records on assigned students and submit reports as required.
- Assist students with the use of various learning systems.
- Coordinate and monitor services provided to program participants.
- Refer special problems to appropriate individual(s) (i.e., coordinator, counselor, and/or instructor).
- Prepare and lead workshops on for students.
- Meet with instructors to receive up to date course information and materials.
- Prepare practice quizzes and exams for individualized learning and success.
- Accurately maintain records and submit reports as required.
- Maintain and develop work related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional development and cross training opportunities.
- Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
Non - Essential Functions
- Participate in departmental meetings, various committees and professional organizations as required.
- Perform additional grade level duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE AND /OR TRAINING
- Associate degree in Chemistry or related field required.
- Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards in current and prior positions.
CLEARANCES
The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire:
- PA Child History clearance
- PA Criminal Record Check clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Related work experience in higher education working with “at risk” students preferred.
