Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in a chemistry lab.
  • Familiarity with scientific equipment including pH meters, balances, micropipettes, Spectronic 20s.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor student workers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare solutions and set up equipment for chemistry experiments and labs.
  • Supervise and train student Teaching Assistants.
  • Ensure safety regulations and chemical hygiene in labs.
  • Collect, log, and manage hazardous waste weekly.
  • Maintain clean and organized lab spaces; perform minor repairs on instruments.
  • Monitor lab inventory and coordinate orders for supplies and equipment with Lab Manager.
  • Collaborate with Biology lab coordinator to coordinate shared equipment usage.
  • Perform annual tasks such as deep lab cleaning, chemical and glassware inventory, and trainings.
  • Assist with biology lab coordination and supply/equipment pickups.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager.

This position works full time for 10 months and then half time for 2 months during the summer.The Chemistry Lab Coordinator supports Seattle Pacific University’s mission by contributing to a Christ‑centered learning and working community committed to academic excellence, service, and engagement with the world. To that end, all University employees are required to be aligned with and supportive of SPU's Statement of Faith and its derivative policies and lifestyle expectations.What will you do?As the Chemistry Lab Coordinator you will:Prepare solutions and set up equipment for chemistry experiments and labs.Supervise and train student Teaching Assistants.Ensure safety regulations and chemical hygiene protocols are followed in all instructional labs.Collect, log, and manage hazardous waste waste weekly.Maintain clean and organized lab spaces; perform minor repairs on instruments.Monitor lab inventory and coordinate orders for supplies and equipment with the Lab Manager.Collaborate with the Biology lab coordinator to coordinate shared equipment usage.Perform annual tasks such as a deep lab cleaning, physical inventory of chemicals and glassware, and complete required RCRA and DOT trainings.Assist with biology lab coordination and supply/equipment pickups as needed.Complete other duties as assigned by the Lab ManagerWhat will you bring?We're looking for someone with:A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience in a chemistry lab, either through academic coursework or professional roles.Familiarity with scientific equipment, including pH meters, balances, micropipettes, and Spectronic 20s.Strong organizational skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative teamComfort supervising and mentoring student workers.Physical ability to lift and carry 40 - 50 pounds.A personal commitment to Christian faith, enthusiasm about supporting SPU's mission , alignment with the University's Statement of Faith , and a willingness to accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian community.Compensation and benefits: $24.00 - $25.50 per hour, DOEThis position works full time for 10 months and then half time for 2 months during the summer.
