Job summary

ATI, located in Monroe, NC, is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) for a night shift (6:00 pm–6:00 am, rotating 2-2-3). The role involves sampling, chemical analyses, and instrument operation to ensure materials meet industry and customer specs.

You will prepare samples, analyze via Leco, Panalytical XRF, ARL OES, and record results in LIMS. Required are a high school diploma or GED; a 2-year technical degree or chemistry-focused education, or 1 year of related work experience.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or chemistry-focused education preferred.
  • One year of related laboratory work experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis via cutting, grinding, drilling, polishing.
  • Perform routine chemical analyses with specified instruments and prep work.
  • Conduct in-process VIM analysis and associated sample prep.
  • Run powder tests and particle size/density analyses as required.
  • Log batches and results in LIMS and maintain records.
  • Calibrate and verify equipment; document all activities.
  • Follow safety programs and quality standards in daily work.
  • Assist in routine lab operations and perform minor equipment repairs.

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) at our Bakers facility in Monroe, NC. As a Lab Tech, you are part of an analytical process where you ensure products meet the chemistry specifications of both the industry and the customer. As a Lab Tech, you will take samples of metal material and test them using specific protocols. A successful candidate will need to exhibit good reasoning skills, be able to read and carry out complex technical procedures and have good attention to detail.

This is a night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, then have 3 days off. Initial training will take place from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on the same rotating 2-2-3 schedule.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis by using various methods such as cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing equipment.
  • Perform routine chemical analysis using the Leco Oxygen/Nitrogen, Leco Carbon/Sulfur, Panalytical XRF, and ARL Optical Emission Spectromter (OES) instruments including sample sectioning and surface preparation.
  • Perform VIM In-process analysis including all preparation.
  • Perform various mechanical powder testing such as Ro-Tap sieve analysis, Microtrac particle size distribution analysis and various density tests.
  • Log batches and record results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform regular calibration/verification and maintenance to ensure proper equipment operation. Record all activity by completing logbooks and other required documentation.
  • Adhere to and participate with company safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform work following all company quality standards and customer specifications to ensure a quality product is being produced including required documentation.
  • Assist in routine laboratory operations and/or perform other routine laboratory work as directed. Perform normal mechanical servicing and minor repairs of testing equipment.
Basic Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree, advanced high school education in Chemistry, or 1 year of related work experience
