Job summary

SI Group is seeking a Chemist to advance process development, troubleshoot products and processes, and provide technical support across plant operations, R&D, and customers. The role involves conducting research, guiding technicians, and participating in Process Hazard Analyses to ensure safety and quality.

The candidate should have a background in chemistry (BS/MS/PhD) with experience in scaling up and pilot plants within manufacturing, and a strong ability to communicate technical results

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemistry or any physical sciences with at least 4 years related experience; and/or MS with at least 2 years related experience; and/or PhD in Chemistry.
  • Experience with trouble shooting, scaling up and pilot plants in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and guide technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct process development as directed by the Process Technology Manager.
  • Provide effectively written and verbal reports as required.
  • Provide technical service to internal and external customers through resolution of quality problems and customer complaints.
  • Conduct research with minimal supervision and achieve goals agreed with Process Technology Manager.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis of site processes.
  • Guide daily activities of technicians and provide hands-on support for operations and customers.

Job description

As the Chemist, reporting to the Director - Process Technology, you will be responsible for responsible for process development, product and process troubleshooting, and technical support for plant operations, R&D, Manufacturing, and customers. You will plan and conduct research with limited direction, identify unusual results, develop practical solutions, manage multiple assignments, and communicate clear technical findings. Additionally, you will collaborate across functions to support quality and customer complaint resolution, participate in process hazard analyses, and may guide technicians.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Conduct process development as directed by the Process Technology Manager
  • Provide effectively written and verbal reports as required.
  • Provide technical service to both internal and external customers through the resolution of quality problems and customer complaints related to the chemical characteristics of our products
  • Conduct research with minimum supervision and achieve the goals agreed to by mutual consent with Process Technology Manager
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis of new and existing site processes
  • Handles multiple assignments and coordinates with others.
  • Suggests alternative approaches within the scope of the experiment or project/process.
  • Becomes familiar with the technology of the functional unit or area.
  • Guide daily activities of technicians.
  • Provide technical and hands-on support for plant operations and customers as required.
  • Carry out special projects in support of R&D and Manufacturing as directed by the Process Technology Management
  • Adhere to company EH&S regulations, SI Group Responsible Care practices and ISO 9000 programs
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory and working environment.
  • Works with supervision to ensure data integrity and verify that their work is correct.

Creating Extraordinary Starts With:

  • BS degree in Chemistry or any physical sciences with at least 4 years related experience; and/or
  • MS degree in Chemistry or any physical sciences with at least 2 years related experience; and/or
  • PhD degree in Chemistry
  • Experience with trouble shooting, scaling up and pilot plants in a manufacturing environment

  • The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $130,000. The specific salary offered will be determined by a variety of factors including location, experience, and education.
