Job summary

The State of Hawai'i is hiring for a chemist position (Recruitment Number 25-0372) in the Department of Law Enforcement, Kalihi, and the Department of Health, Pearl City, on a temporary full-time basis. Salary ranges from $5,527 to $6,728 per month.

  • Two years of professional work experience applying chemistry principles to predict results or interpret research; at least one year at the level of Chemist III.

Location: Department of Law Enforcement, Kalihi; Department of Health, Pearl City (temporary full-time)

Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry or a closely related science which included at least 30 semester credit hours in chemistry courses including organic, inorganic, analytical and/or physical chemistry.

Specialized Experience

Two (2) years of professional work experience which demonstrated the ability to apply the scientific laws and principles of chemistry to predict results; or to interpret and evaluate the results of professional research or analyses by other chemists; or to assess the need for and validity of proposed changes and improvements in laboratory procedures and methods.

At least one (1) year of the required Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the fully competent worker, or the Chemist III in the State service.

Driver's License

Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
