Job summary

SCA Pharmaceuticals is a dynamic FDA-registered outsourcing facility focused on providing high-quality medications to hospitals nationwide. The QC Chemist I role is an entry-level position in a cGMP laboratory.

Under guidance, you will perform routine analytical testing (e.g., potency, UPLC/HPLC, pH), learn SOPs, GDP documentation, and support general lab operations. This is an excellent entry point with growth in a rapidly expanding company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or Life Sciences.
  • General knowledge of Analytical Chemistry theory and basic lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control analytical testing per SOPs and USP/FDA guidance.
  • Operate lab equipment and perform basic maintenance.
  • Weigh reference standards and samples using analytical balances.
  • Document all laboratory activities following GDP and maintain records.
  • Interpret and communicate analytical results clearly.
  • Occasionally perform weekend/holiday duties to meet timelines.
  • Maintain accurate written records of all analysis performed.
  • Communicate analytical results clearly and promptly.
  • Support lab activities including purchasing, cleaning and waste removal.
  • Occasionally work weekends/holidays to meet project timelines.

Summary

The Quality Control (QC) Chemist I is an entry level position for individuals who use their understanding of Analytical Chemistry to perform the basic and routine experiments including generation and analysis of data in a cGMP laboratory.

Essential functions
  • With guidance, perform quality control analytical testing in accordance with USP/FDA/ICH guidance and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Typical testing may include potency assay by UPLC/HPLC/IC/AA/UV, pH, density, KF, Particulate matter, Identification by IR, etc.
  • Learn and understand the requirements as documents in SOPs, test methods under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Operate lab equipment and perform basic maintenance/cleaning procedures
  • Weigh reference standards, reagents and samples accurately and precisely using analytical balances
  • Perform accurate quantitative volumetric and gravimetric dilution using class A volumetric glassware and analytical balance with proper mixing technique
  • Clearly document all laboratory activities following GDP
  • Maintain accurate written records of all analysis performed
  • Learn to interpret and communicate analytical results and issues clearly and quickly
  • Perform a variety of chemistry laboratory support activities including purchasing, routine cleaning, and waste removal
  • Occasionally perform weekend and holiday duties to meet project timelines or when requested by management.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or Life Sciences (Preferred in Chemistry).
  • Have general knowledge of Analytical Chemistry theory and the use and operation of basic laboratory equipment.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with team members.
  • Ability to perform analytical testing while standing for long periods of time
  • Mathematical skills, including the ability to analyze scientific and test data, and a basic understanding of statistical analysis.
