Job Description

Position Purpose: Responsible for leading laboratory technicians in performing routine tasks and simple analysis of hazardous waste samples in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. May perform specialized analysis under the direction of the Lab Manager or Technical Manager to support applied quality assurance and control procedures. Maintain the laboratory as directed for compliance with company hygiene plans. May prepare manifest for waste being shipped off site or review waste in route to facility for disposal. Ability to review and accept paperwork from sample analysis and other paperwork approvals.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities
  • Coordinate analysis of incoming hazardous waste materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, and safety protocols.
  • Assist and oversee the logging of all incoming lab samples through manual and electronic systems while verifying proper labels and documentation.
  • Assist facility personnel with paperwork approval to ascertain accuracy and enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.
  • Conduct sample analysis on incoming waste per methods and procedures established by training and knowledge of waste analysis plans. Conduct and oversee QA/QC sample analysis, method development, calibrations, and lab studies.
  • Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results including QA/QC and audits sample documents prior to approval. Gather appropriate paperwork for management approvals and notify staff of any incomplete sections needing attention.
  • Assist in the compiling and reporting of analysis data and reports including QA/QC data for review by staff.
  • Review and decide on inbound container rejection/acceptance to ensure compliance with all permits and regulations.
  • Obtain authorization under the direction of Laboratory Supervisor for waste streams, process samples, sales samples, and production waste streams, with proper documentation.
  • Full signature authority for site-generated waste.
  • Identify discrepancies on incoming waste and assist the Discrepancy Chemist with resolution; review and suggest comments to prevent discrepancies.
  • Assist in manifesting and documenting lab waste leaving the facility, ensuring timely departure following all requirements.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions, standards, and other lab solutions as directed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical equipment, coordinate onsite service, and document in accordance with quality standards.
  • Perform audits of analytical logs to ensure federal regulation compliance.
  • Complete analyst training and train others, documenting within Veolia's QA/QC program.
  • Review analytical procedures and analysts periodically for compliance, providing additional training as needed.
  • Comply with all regulatory agencies in hazardous waste disposal.
  • Perform other laboratory analyses as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Department.
Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science preferred.
  • 1-3 years of laboratory experience in environmental or hazardous waste industry preferred.
  • Typically 1-3 years in Lab Tech III role.

Additional Information

Targeted Annual Pay: $64,000

Benefits: Veolia offers comprehensive benefits including paid time off, health, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan. Details are outlined in the collective bargaining agreement for union employees. Sick leave: 56 hours; Holidays: 11 days; Vacation: Flexible Time Off.
