Job summary

MegaFood, a Certified B Corporation and 1% for the Planet member, seeks a Chemist to support qualitative and quantitative analyses of dietary ingredients and products. The role involves routine testing of materials, reagents preparation, and instrumental and chemical testing across multiple techniques.

Qualified candidates have a chemistry degree and 3+ years of laboratory experience, with preference for HPLC, ICP, and HPTLC proficiency and strong attention to detail. Travel up to 5% is expected.

Responsibilities

• Routinely tests raw materials, bulk, and finished products.
• Prepares chemical reagents needed to perform routine testing.
• Performs instrumental analytical testing techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and HPTLC.
• Performs chemical testing techniques such as titration, pH, and allergen ELISA.
• Performs physical testing techniques such as moisture and water activity.
• Reviews/manages manufacturing paperwork and laboratory data; updates SOPs as needed.
• Aids with chemical tracking and disposal.
• Cleans and maintains lab equipment, including recalibration.
• Maintains accurate records of analytical and physical testing.
• Recognizes aberrant data and troubleshoots equipment issues.
• Supports training new hires.

The Chemist supports the qualitative and quantitative analysis of food and dietary supplement ingredients and products.

Key Responsibilities

• Once qualified, routinely tests raw materials, bulk, and finished products.
• Prepares chemical reagents needed to perform routine testing.
• Performs instrumental analytical testing techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and HPTLC
• Performs chemical testing techniques such as titration, pH, and allergen ELISA.
• Performs physical testing techniques such as moisture and water activity.
• Reviews/issues manufacturing paperwork, analytical department paperwork (data review, SOP updates, etc.), and may be asked to work on other documentation projects and tasks as directed.
• Aids with chemical tracking and disposal.
• Cleans and maintains lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
• Maintains accurate, legible, and timely records of analytical and physical testing, both manually and with the use of a computer.
• Recognizes aberrant data, communicates issues to lab management in a timely manner, and troubleshoots equipment and testing issues.
• Supports training new hires.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience in chemistry or a related field Required
• 1-3 years related experience Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience Required
• Experience with HPLC, ICP, and HPTLC Preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

• Advanced knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, procedures, and instrumentation used in an analytical chemistry laboratory.

National Target Base Pay Range: $53,000.00 - $88,000.00

For candidates in California and the New York metro, the Target Base Pay Range is $59,000.00 - $98,000.00, to reflect the cost of living and market conditions in those areas.

Actual compensation will take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location, education, experience, qualifications and job-related skills. It is not typical for an individual to be hired above the midpoint of the range for their role, and compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. Base pay is only one component of our total rewards offerings, and we will take the full offering into consideration when presenting an offer of employment. Our total rewards package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, Medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K match, and other wellness benefits.
