Responsibilities

• Assess COTS equipment for performance and suitability; primarily chemical identification equipment.
• Write and brief test plans, results, and reports on assessment findings to sponsors and CBP stakeholders.
• Develop and conduct tests for chemical ingredients, substances, and materials.
• Analyze substances to determine their composition and concentration of elements.
• Travel up to 25% for data collection events at labs, FOLs, and POEs.

Job description

Mayvin is seeking the support of a highly motivated and skilled Chemist in the DC metropolitan area in support the Interdiction Technology Branch’s (ITB) Rapid Technology Assessment (RTA) team. The duty station will be at INTERDICT Science Center (ISC) in Ashburn, VA.The primary responsibilities of the position will be to assess Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Chemical Identification equipment for performance and suitability in both the laboratory and field environments. This will include writing test plans, collecting data, and writing reports on the findings. The chemist will collaborate with ISC while performing chemical equipment assessments and conduct chemical analyses and physical testing of materials, chemicals, physiological specimens, and other products. These details provide an opportunity to collaborate with other DHS and interagency components, including the Departments of Defense and Justice; experiment with emerging tools/technologies; and develop knowledge products that will inform data driven investment and policy for CBP's operational components.Must be a U.S. Citizen.Must be able to undergo and pass a background investigation.
