Job summary

The University of Iowa seeks an experienced scientist to fill the Chemical Threat Coordinator role, leading emergency preparedness for chemical threats and coordinating with state, local, and federal partners. The candidate will act as Laboratory Chemical Safety Officer and manage analyses for hazardous samples.

Regular M-F hours with travel; on-site work; pay range about $70,000–$73,000. Strong leadership, communication, analytical chemistry, and training experience are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, toxicology or equivalent.
• Experience in environmental and clinical public health lab settings.
• Ability to lead teams, manage projects, and train staff or partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead emergency preparedness program for chemical threats and environmental hazards.
• Provide expert scientific and technical advice to partners at multiple levels.
• Design and implement outreach and training programs for the community.
