Job Title: Chemical Technician (Field Operator III)

Location: Carlsbad, NM

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Job Summary

The Chemical Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable installation, repair, and optimization of chemical injection systems and related production equipment in the field. This role also includes collecting and analyzing production fluid samples, supporting chemical treatment programs, and assisting with field operations such as well flushes and acid treatments.

The technician works closely with the Special Services Team, Production Engineers, Foremen, and Lease Operators to ensure optimal production performance, chemical effectiveness, and compliance with all safety and environmental standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect production fluid samples as required and ensure timely delivery for laboratory testing.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot chemical injection pumps and related field equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and document pending and completed repairs using company applications.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in resolving production issues such as corrosion, emulsion, paraffin, and solids.
  • Monitor chemical inventory, track consumption, and coordinate refills or deliveries with vendors.
  • Follow up on new wells to identify those requiring chemical treatment and verify equipment setup.
  • Coordinate installation of chemical or field equipment with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Conduct and supervise flushes and acid treatments on wells as directed by Production Engineers, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Schedule field activities in coordination with chemical vendors, trucking companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong safety and environmental practices across all field operations.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with the Special Services Team, Production Foremen, Engineers, and Lease Operators.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, safety policies, and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Abilities Required
  • Basic understanding of production chemicals and their application in oilfield operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word required).
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems (XSPOC, Ignition, or similar) preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Leadership mindset and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities under minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.
  • Physically able to lift more than 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in field environments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Chemical Technician, Lease Operator, or Field Operator in oil & gas production.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with chemical injection systems and production optimization.
  • Previous experience coordinating with chemical vendors or performing well treatments.
