Job description

About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where AI training and data-labeling freelancers find work, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and build a unified AI training portfolio they control. We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.

About this role

OpenTrain is recruiting for a Chemical Safety AI Model Evaluator to help assess how artificial intelligence systems respond to sensitive questions involving chemistry, toxicology, industrial hygiene, process safety, and chemical security. You will review realistic user requests and multiple model answers, distinguish legitimate professional questions from dual-use or adversarial requests, and provide expert judgments that improve safety, accuracy, and appropriate access to information. This is hands‑on AI training work for experienced chemical safety professionals and subject‑matter experts.

What you will do

You will classify chemical‑safety requests as benign, dual‑use, or adversarial. You will assess three model answers for safety, accuracy, and appropriateness, explain each judgment, rank the responses, and write the answer the model should have provided. You will identify why a dual‑use request is sensitive, its legitimate purpose, and who should receive an answer. You will also create detailed prompts and responses that support AI learning across diverse chemical‑safety topics and test models for inaccuracies, bias, unsafe behavior, and inappropriate refusals.

Required skills

You should have professional expertise in synthetic or analytical chemistry, toxicology, pharmacology, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, process safety, chemical security, emergency response, or chemical regulation. You should be able to distinguish benign, dual‑use, and adversarial chemical questions using sound safety judgment and evaluate technical answers for accuracy, risk, context, and appropriate boundaries. A relevant degree or comparable professional background is typically expected, along with strong written communication and the ability to explain technical safety decisions clearly.

Helpful background

Experience with safety data sheets, exposure assessment, incident reports, or regulatory review is valuable. Relevant regulatory or response experience may include work connected with EPA, OSHA, HSE, OPCW, hazmat operations, poison control, or chemical incident response. The opportunity is available remotely to citizens or permanent residents of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Why work with OpenTrain

OpenTrain gives freelancers one place to manage AI training opportunities instead of rebuilding proof of work on every platform. A stronger OpenTrain profile helps you show credible experience, discover roles that match your skills, and turn AI training and data‑labeling work into a long‑term portfolio.
