Job summary

Occidental Chemical Corporation, operating as OxyChem, is seeking an experienced Chemical Operator for our Chicago, IL plant. You will monitor process conditions, perform inspections, and maintain equipment to ensure safe, compliant production.

You will operate field equipment, follow SAP work notifications, participate in the Emergency Response Team, and ensure environmental health and safety standards while lifting up to 40 lbs and working rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Process Technology Degree or 2 years chemical plant experience.
• Strong math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning.
• Able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime and callouts.
• Willingness to serve on Emergency Response Team.
• Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
• Proficient with Microsoft applications.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Protect environment and safety as top priority.
• Conduct routine operating inspections and troubleshoot issues.
• Operate field equipment and monitor process using instrumentation.
• Maintain log of readings, labs, and shift production needs.
• Initiate work requests and perform minor maintenance.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Notify supervision and other personnel of malfunctions.
