Job summary

MilliporeSigma in Tamaqua, PA seeks a Chemical Plant Operator to run processing equipment, log data, and optimize the chemical process while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include material handling, cylinder maintenance, and using DCS/PLC systems to monitor and improve yield, with a 12-hour rotating shift (2 weeks days, 2 weeks nights).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Associate Degree in Chemical Technology, Chemistry or life science is preferred.
• Knowledge of chemical processing techniques, safety procedures and quality practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate chemical processing equipment including, but not limited to, vessels, distillation columns, compressors, reactors, scrubbers, driers, chillers, and receivers.
• Maintain logs and operating records, evaluate data, and take action to control the process.
• Inspect incoming/outgoing materials and prepare containers of various sizes.
• Perform cylinder maintenance including painting, labeling, loading/unloading, shipping, and stamping with safe handling.
• Use analytical tools to optimize the chemical process for yield and throughput while minimizing waste and downtime.
• Communicate with site coworkers and manage procurement and inventory tracking.

Your Role:

The Chemical Plant Operator at EMD Electronics in Tamaqua, PA will operate chemical processing equipment including, but not limited to, freezeout vessels, batch distillation columns, compressors, reactors, scrubbers, driers, chillers, and liquefiers/receivers. The Operator will also maintain logs and operating records, evaluate data, and take appropriate action to control the process. Additional responsibilities include the following:

• Work with raw materials in the production process, including performing incoming/outgoing material inspections and preparing and/or filling containers of all sizes such as tube trailers, modules, Y containers and cylinders/cylinder packs.
• Perform cylinder maintenance and preparation tasks including painting, labeling, loading/unloading, shipping, shuttling, stamping, and processing while using safe handling techniques.
• Use analytical and systems tools to evaluate and optimize the chemical process, striving to maximize yield and throughput while minimizing waste and system downtime.
• Utilize equipment for manufacturing and inventory tracking, procurement, and general communications.
• Strive to improve operating knowledge through computer-based training (CBT) and other techniques.
• Perform computer functions necessary to communicate with site co-workers and to operate the plants.
• Perform routine plant maintenance utilizing hand tools, hand power tools, and equipment necessary to maintain the plant process equipment and will be expected to enhance his/her technical capabilities in this area; maintain plant housekeeping standards and train new operators.

This is a continuous rotating 12-hour shift. 2 Weeks on Days and 2 weeks on nights.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Chemical Technology, Chemistry or other life science discipline.
• Knowledge of chemical processing techniques, safe work policies and procedures and quality practices.
• Knowledge of customer attributes and specifications.
• Personal computer skills and experience with distributive control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).

Pay Rate for this position: $33.58/hr - $35.10/hr
