Job summary

Lubrizol is seeking highly motivated Chemical Engineering students for its Operations Co-op Program, starting Spring and Summer 2027. This on-site internship offers exposure to Production Support and Process Development across multiple locations.

Co-ops will work 40 hours per week, collaborating with production engineers, improving safety and process performance, and preparing lab and pilot scale experiments. Eligible candidates must be pursuing a B.S.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Graduating between December 2028 and May 2030.
  • Two co-op terms completed; 40 hours per week; three or more co-ops preferred with fall/spring terms.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • GPA > 3.0 preferred.

Responsibilities

The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated Chemical Engineering students for our Operations Co-op Program to start in our program in the Spring & Summer 2027 semester.

What You’ll Do

Our program offers a range of locations and responsibilities. Each assignment will challenge you to build on the knowledge you gain in the classroom. You will be exposed to a variety of assignments mainly focusing on Production Support and Process Development. These core assignments are designed to develop you as a well-rounded engineer by exposing you to various departments and sites throughout the company. You may be asked to work shifts that mirror those of the operators during your term

Production Support

Co-ops will assist the day-to-day operation of production units and help solve technical issues encountered in manufacturing. You will work on projects involving process optimization (increasing capacity, reducing batch cycle time, etc.), safety improvements, new process and equipment start-ups, system troubleshooting, capital project design, and recommending and/or implementing equipment changes. In this role, you will develop your troubleshooting and problem-solving skills while applying the knowledge you have learned in the classroom. You will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of departments within the plant, throughout Lubrizol, and in outside organizations. You will also be introduced to the variety of tools and methods that are used by production engineers to help keep production moving.

Process Development

Our Process Development group is responsible for developing and scaling up new products and assisting the plants in optimizing the quality and processing of existing products. In this term, you will be asked to design lab and pilot scale experiments, implement equipment changes, develop and evaluate analytical tests, collect and analyze data, and then make recommendations based on your results. In this assignment you will be challenged to expand on your classroom studies and to think outside of the box to help expand Lubrizol’s technology base as we develop new and innovative products

Safety And Physical Requirements
  • Able to work in a fixed position, standing or sitting, for long portions of the workday.
  • Completion of work hours on shift schedule; for example, swing shift, second shift, or third shift (maximum of 6 weeks per term)
  • Requires use of appropriate PPE to fulfill safety requirements.
  • Physically able to climb and work in elevated area (i.e., climbing and descending stairs repeatedly during shift).
  • Willing/able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Presence of nuisance odors, noise, heavy machinery from chemical processes, testing/laboratories facilities.
  • Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements. These include but are not limited to; safety footwear, safety apparel, eye protection, hard hat, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.
  • Handle glassware and equipment for laboratory work.
  • Operation of equipment and/or handling of chemicals if/when properly trained.
What We’re Looking For
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • Students who are interested in working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation between December 2028 through May 2030.
  • Completion of two co-op terms is required, working 40 hours per week. Three or more co-op terms are strongly preferred with one or more scheduled in the fall or spring semester(s).
  • Students are responsible for reliable transportation to and from their work location during their co-op term. Some sites may require co-ops to have a transportation method during work hours to get to various locations in the plant.
  • Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.
