Job summary

Redwood Materials Inc. is seeking a Chemical Engineer to support battery recycling and related operations.

The role focuses on safe, efficient, and sustainable process improvements, with responsibilities spanning testwork, pilot plant activities, and flowsheet development. Ideal candidates hold a degree in chemical engineering or related fields and have 3–5 years of experience in chemical plant operations or design/commissioning.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Work with operations and maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, sustainable processes.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment.
  • Conduct testwork and pilot plant design and operation.
  • Develop flowsheets and conduct trade-off studies.
  • Assist in process plant implementation, commissioning, and ramp-up.

Job description

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recyclingkeeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017,we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

The chemical engineering team has three main functions that leverage all the fields of chemical and metallurgical processing: Provide sound technical support and continuously improve our commercial operations; Develop new processes and plants to address the immediate challenges of the recycling industry; Research and development to address the future challenges of recycling industry. This Chemical Engineer will fall underneath Redwood's Operations group supporting our battery recycling and related operations.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Working closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure that our processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving
  • Leading andparticipatingin cross-functional teams to develop and implement new processplantand equipment
  • Testworkand pilot plant design and operation
  • Flowsheet conceptualization and development
  • Flowsheet trade-off evaluations and studies
  • Process plant implementation and installationassistance
  • Process plant commissioning and ramp-up
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelors orMasters in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • 3to5yearsexperiencein Chemical Plant Operations and/or Design and Commissioning
  • Operational support andtrack recordof solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
  • Testworkand pilot plant design and operating experience
  • Process modelling (HSCSIM,SysCAD, METSIM) and equipment sizing linkingtestworkand pilot plant operation to real project implementation
  • Trade-off studies and financial evaluation
  • Process plant design and commissioning
  • Track recordof solving difficult chemical and metallurgical processing problems
  • Metallurgical processing context of this experience is desired (mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy and electrometallurgy) but itisn’tessentia
  • Self Motivatedwith ahands onapproach who takes the initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Mustmaintainregular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards
  • Must be able to communicate clearly
Working Conditions:
  • Split work environment between office and the production facility
  • Work may involve extended periods of working in the production facility
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
  • May require occasional work weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
