Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Chemical Engineer Intern to join our safety-focused team for Summer 2027. This in-person internship is based out of Deer Park, TX or El Dorado, AR and runs May–August 2027.

You will gain hands-on experience while supporting real projects across environmental, energy, and industrial services. Responsibilities include assisting with safety programs, mechanical integrity, process modeling, and CAD updates.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at an accredited college or university.
• Strong interest in environmental services industry and safety.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the top priority and follow safe work practices.
• Assist in implementing and maintaining the Mechanical Integrity Program.
• Work with refinery equipment models and processes using modeling tools.
• Use CAD to revise and update engineering drawings.
• Assist site engineer with project scoping and design for fixed and rotating equipment.
• Troubleshoot multidisciplinary refinery unit issues.
• Learn and apply Process Safety Management (PSM) concepts and procedures.

Clean Harbors is seeking a Chemical Engineer Intern to join our safety-focused team. This internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience while supporting real projects that contribute to business priorities across our environmental, energy, and industrial services operations. We are searching for a reliable and team‑oriented individual with an excellent commitment to safety to join our growing team during Summer 2027 !

This internship is an in‑person opportunity based out of either Deer Park, TX or El Dorado, AR and is not eligible for remote work. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to our industry, and develop practical skills that support their academic and early career goals.

Start dates for our Summer 2027 Internship Program are May 17th or May 24th of 2027. Internships will run through the summer and end in August.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;

• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Mechanical Integrity Program;

• Use modeling platform to work on models of refinery equipment and operations;

• Use CAD program to revise and update drawings;

• Assist site engineer with project scoping and design for fixed and rotating equipment;

• Assist with trouble shooting multi-disciplinary problems with the refinery units;

• Gain exposure and participate to Process Safety Management (PSM) principles, including the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) process, Management of Change (MOCs), Operating Procedures, Incident Investigation, and other elements of PSM;

• Take initiative and demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving;

• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including the pillars of Process Safety Management (PSM);

What does it take to intern with Clean Harbors?

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at an accredited college or university;

• Strong interested in learning about the environmental services industry;

• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment;

• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills;

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or relevant technical tools;

• Proficiency in CAD or similar software for updating and modifying engineering drawings;

• Knowledge of P&IDs and piping ISOs preferred;
