Job summary

Leidos is seeking a chemical engineer to support evaluation of energetic materials at its Picatinny, NJ location. Responsibilities include setup, operation and optimization of continuous flow processes, such as reactors, crystallizers, separators, and other equipment, plus product isolation and analytical work (NMR, IR, Raman, UV/Vis).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field is required.
• Foundational understanding of general scientific principles and strong organizational skills.
• Experience with laboratory procedures and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data on the synthesis of molecules for the U.S. Army and execute research protocols.
• Interact with outside customers, vendors, and researchers to support projects.
• Test, evaluate, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, and calibrate equipment for continuous processing.
• Create, evaluate and analyze DOEs for optimization of continuous processes.
• Support acquisition of new equipment through market research, purchase, and installation.
• Establish SOPs for safe operation of material testing.
• Collect, organize, and perform data analysis and verify data entry.
• Maintain logbooks, generate material balances, and record observations.
• Assist with technical reports, summaries, and presentations.
• Present work at program reviews and conferences.
• Maintain compliance with laboratory safety guidelines and procedures.
