Job summary

South Shore Health is seeking a Urology Division Chief in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The Division Chief will collaborate closely with the Vice President of South Shore Medical Center and lead quality, safety, and growth initiatives within the Division.

Qualifications

Overview

The Division Chief reports directly to the Vice President of South Shore Medical Center and indirectly to the Chair, Department of Surgery at South Shore Hospital for Urologic Surgical and Perioperative Service needs. Formal reporting occurs through weekly or biweekly meetings.

Compensation Pay Range

$434,000.00 – $660,000.00

Responsibilities

• Oversight of Division Quality, Safety, and Growth.
• Embrace and further the engagement and coordination of physicians, APCs, nursing and staff.
• Provides leadership, organization, and direction for shaping team culture.
• Endorse and lead division‑wide practice improvement initiatives along with operations and nursing.
• Review patient satisfaction reports for the division and address areas for improvement with specific action plans.
• Establish, track, and develop continuous improvement strategies for clinical quality and access goals.
• Establish protocols and best practices for the patient population served, working collaboratively with other Divisions’ clinical and operational leaders.
• Lead continued growth of the Division through recruitment and integration of new physicians and APCs.
• Provide leadership and oversight for all urologic surgical activities within the Department of Surgery.
• Represent the Urology service at the Operating Room Committee and OR Executive Committee, ensuring effective communication of division needs and priorities.
• Support and optimize robotic surgery utilization for Urology, including case allocation, efficiency, and strategic planning.
• Participate in block time management for all urologists, ensuring equitable and efficient use of surgical resources.
• Attend Division of Surgery Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) conferences and ensure full participation of all Urology providers.
• Promote and oversee Urology’s engagement in all quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives within the Division of Surgery.
• Ensure adherence to surgical standards, clinical protocols, and best practices across all Urology surgical services.
• Serve as an effective liaison between the hospital and non‑hospital‑owned urology practices, fostering strong communication, alignment, and collaboration.
• Support integration and coordination of surgical workflows across diverse practice settings.
• Maintain productive relationships with perioperative leadership, anesthesia, nursing, and other key stakeholders.
• Provide input on strategic planning related to urologic surgical services, technology, and program development.
• Assist the Chief of Surgery in evaluating surgical performance, resource needs, and operational opportunities within Urology.
• Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of urologic surgeons as appropriate.

Divisional Leadership

• The triad of Division chief, nurse lead, and operations lead sets the agenda and runs Division meetings with all providers, operational, and nursing leaders.
• The triad holds weekly meetings to review operations, nursing, and provider strategies to effectively manage the Division.
• The triad meets as necessary with other key stakeholders to review safety, quality, productivity, human development, and cost metrics, and to problem‑solve within these areas to be more effective.
• Ensure adequate divisional coverage at all times, managing vacation and schedule conflicts.
• Ensure that all clinical providers within the Division meet the clinical and operational standards set forth by SSMC.
• Monitor quality and appropriateness of medical care.
• Manage provider relations and professionalism issues, assist with clinical patient complaints, and provide performance improvement guidance and support.

Clinical Responsibilities

The ideal candidate would be a full‑time physician practicing the full spectrum of urology, with 0.2 FTE time allocated for Chief administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications

• License/Certificates: Currently licensed or able to obtain a physician license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Board Certified in Urology; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience: 1–3 years in a managerial/leadership position and a minimum of 5–7 years of clinical experience as a urologist.
