Job Description

The Chef Instructor, Pastry contributes to the success of a Sur La Table store by inspiring customers throughout their culinary journey. The Chef Instructor combines culinary talent and teaching skills to support the Resident Chef in driving business results. The role reports to the Resident Chef.

Responsibilities include:
  • Modeling and directing employees to meet customer service standards.
  • Delivering exceptional cooking classes using provided recipes and plans.
  • Maintaining product knowledge through training and resource seeking.
  • Ensuring high standards of sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Keeping work and guest areas organized and clean.
  • Cooking and serving food at correct temperatures under sanitary conditions.
  • Working as part of a team to achieve sales goals and increase retail and class sales.
  • Communicating policies and SOPs effectively to staff, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Recording work hours accurately.
  • Anticipating and solving problems, following up with the Resident Chef.
  • Possibly handling beverages and preparing cocktails as needed.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Verbal communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Physical ability to remain stationary, move about, and handle kitchen tasks.
  • Ability to recognize flavors and odors.
  • Physical capacity to lift up to 35 lbs and perform kitchen movements.
  • Flexible schedule for varied class timings.
  • Proficiency with computers and POS systems.
  • 1-2 years kitchen experience or culinary degree in Pastry.
  • Successful teaching/training experience.
  • Valid Food Handlers/Managers Certification.
  • Minimum age of 21.
