Job summary

Harris Teeter is seeking a customer service-oriented team member to create an outstanding experience for shoppers in a vibrant store environment in Charlottesville. You will assist in achieving department sales, maintain safety and cleanliness, and collaborate with Murray's Cheese and Fresh Foods teams to engage customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
• Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
• Ability to effectively present information to customers who only speak English.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of Murray's Cheese specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
• Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
• Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
• Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
• Willing to taste cheese in accordance with company policies.
