General Function

As a cashier, you'll be part of a growing, innovative brand that prides itself on providing best-in-class customer service. We are looking for helpful smiles who enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

The cashier provides fast and friendly service to customers, assists with questions and requests, operates a cash register, and performs related duties. Responsibilities include packaging products, working with drive-up and/or carry-out services, and replenishing stock as needed.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations, Service Managers. No positions report to you.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience.
  • Greet customers with a smile, learn their names, and address them by name when possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them, securing out-of-reach products, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
  • Answer phone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
  • Operate cash register accurately, process transactions, redeem coupons, and handle cash and credit card payments.
  • Package merchandise, assist with store cleanliness, stock shelves, and maintain store appearance.
  • Follow policies on sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets, and comply with WIC and food stamp regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of product codes and features, and assist customers in locating items.
  • Ensure safety and security, communicate effectively, and review weekly store ads for pricing updates.
  • Keep the register area clean and report discrepancies.
  • Perform sanitation procedures and adhere to dress code and hygiene standards.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist management with store displays and promotions.
  • Know product code dates and assist customers accordingly.
  • Change register tapes and ribbons as needed.
  • Assist in other store areas as required.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, request supplies verbally or in writing.
Education and Experience

No formal education or experience required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds constantly (accommodations available).
  • Vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, including depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, equipment hazards, chemicals, and solvents in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, trash compactor, forklift, calculator, telephone, intercom, copier, fax (within wage and hour guidelines).
